Heather’s Story (+ free iPhone wallpapers!)

June 7, 2015 | Freebies, Miscellaneous

Have HopeDid you know that it’s National Cancer Survivors Day today? I had no idea until recently, but really – what a fantastic thing to celebrate! With all the horrible things that come up in the news, doesn’t it feel good to celebrate something as happy and positive as kicking cancer’s butt? I think so.

SO… In honor of National Cancer Survivors Day, I wanted to share Heather Von St. James story. She is a 9-year survivor of a very rare and deadly form of cancer called mesothelioma.

Meet Heather

Heather works tirelessly to spread awareness for this little-known cancer and the dangers of asbestos, so please read more about her and mesothelioma below – or even better, head over to Heather’s website to learn more, lend your support, and to watch a very touching video of Heather and her family.

THEN, because we all love free stuff (right?!), I’ve created some new iPhone wallpapers in honour of National Cancer Survivors Day – yay! They’ll be available at the end of the post :)

Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly form of cancer, caused by exposure to asbestos – a building material used in the 70’s and 80’s. It has since become known for being potentially lethal if the dust is inhaled (and thankfully has been banned in Australia for quite a few years now) however in the US and Canada it’s still used in some building materials (!!).

Heather’s Story
Heather was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2005, after having inhaled asbestos dust from her Father’s work jacket when she was a child. It’s a very agressive form of cancer, and will normally take a person’s life within the first year of diagnosis. Incredibly, Heather had her left lung removed in order to save her life, and has now been cancer-free for 9 years! Amazing :)

While I was watching the video on Heather’s website, I noticed that she talks a lot about hope, and says that “with hope, the odds don’t matter”, which I thought was a lovely sentiment. So, in honour of Heather, and of all the amazing cancer survivors out there I’ve created 4 free “Hope” iPhone wallpapers for you to download.

Friday Musings

November 8, 2013 | Miscellaneous, Personal

Hello hello! It’s nearly the weekend – hooray!

I just wanted to take a moment before we depart for the weekend to let you know that we’ve got a huge couple of months coming up here on Fellow Fellow! I’m so excited – normally Christmas manages to sneak up on me, and I always feel like I’m peddling to catch up with creating DIYs, buying gifts, making plans… but this year, no more! I’ve been lying in wait. It feels like I’ve still been peddling feverishly behind the scenes these past few weeks, but it’s been the good kind – working on some really awesome posts and collaborations that will be headed your way very soon. Yay!!

Next week we’ll be starting in on the Christmas spirit with the first of 3 gift guides, and a wonderful roundup of all things pretty and Christmassy – followed by some wonderful Advent, Gift, and Decoration DIYs in the next few weeks. Bring.It.On!

DIY in progress

And with that, I will leave you to enjoy your friday. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! See you back here Monday. C x

PS. I took the image above as Militza (the talented lady behind Little Green Dot) and I were working on some DIYs together. I can’t wait to share them here, I know you’re going to love them! :)

FF on Instagram!

July 26, 2013 | Miscellaneous

Hello again!

Before I sign off for the weekend (again) I just wanted to have a quick chat about Instagram.. do you use it?

I’ve had an account for quite a while now, but never really got into it. Thing is, even though I love seeing what other people are up to through their photos,  I struggle a little bit with the idea that anyone would really be interested in my day-to-day. It’s a bit like “who on earth really wants to see what I had for lunch” type thing, even though I like seeing what other people had for lunch. Ha.

BUT I’m slowly getting over myself and am trying really hard to post there more frequently. So, I just wanted to let you know in case you’re interested to follow along and see what I had for lunch.

Kidding! I’ll post that tomorrow.

So if you’re on Instagram and would like to follow me, you can find me HERE, or just search for fellowfellow! :)
