Weekend That Was (20-21.04.13)

April 22, 2013 | Miscellaneous, Weekend that was

Ahh, such a great weekend! How was yours?

We had a really good friend of ours staying with us for a few days last week, which was wonderful! I got to play guide and spend some precious time with her exploring Singapore, shopping, eating the most amazing cupcakes, and chatting like only girls can. It was amazing, and has really made going back to reality a little bit difficult today! Miss you already Em!

PS. If you’re in Singapore and hankering for a little something sweet – Plain Vanilla’s Cupcakes are to die for!

It’s Here!

Yippee! As you can see, the new site is now live.. and I’m so excited about the updated look!

I’ve had the feeling for a while that it was time for an update, not just to the look of Fellow Fellow, but also to how it functions. So I’d like to take the chance to walk through a couple of the new features – nothing too drastic, but hopefully help make things more user friendly :)

DIY and Freebies Menus
Your one stop shop for all our DIYs and Freebies! They’re two of the most popular areas of Fellow Fellow, so I’ve tried to make it quicker and easier for you to find what you’re after. These menus now come complete with gallery-style images so you can see exactly what you’ll be getting in each post.. how great is that?! :)

New and Improved ways to connect with us!
Through our new Social Media Buttons and Newsletter Signup, you can keep in touch with us easily. Sign up to our Newsletter (using the brand new sign up form), or share a post with your friends using one of the three new social media buttons below each post. You can even now pin straight to Pinterest!

And last but not least, our new FAQ page.
I’ve never had an FAQ page before, but do get similar questions cropping up in emails from time to time. Hopefully this will help anyone who has a question, but doesn’t really want to send an email to ask it. Of course, if you have any other questions that aren’t already listed, please send through an email and I’ll do my best to answer it for you! :)

I hope you all like and enjoy using the new-look Fellow Fellow, I know it’s been a lot of fun designing it these past few months! And a big shout-out to Nichole from Kitten Lane who has been an absolute saint, turning my design into a fully functioning, well coded website. Thanks Nic, I couldn’t have done it without you!

And lastly – thanks to all of you following along! Whether you’ve been with me from the start (thank you!) or just tuned in today (welcome!), I really appreciate all the support and lovely comments you send my way every day. You guys rock, and I wouldn’t be able to do this every day if it weren’t for you.

Now go – explore our new virtual home! :)

A change coming!

Hello again lovely friends!

I’ve got some very exciting news! If you follow me over on Facebook, you’ll know I’ve been working like a busy bee to finally update the look of this here blog! Hooray! I’m so excited to share the new look with you all, and I hope you’ll like it as much as I do. Don’t worry, it isn’t a full departure from the look as it is now, but will bring much better functionality to the site so you’ll be able to find things quicker and easier.

I just wanted to give you a heads up that it will be going live in the next day or two, so please just bear with us while we work out all the kinks :)

Thanks so much! x

PS. It seems it’s the season for blog updates – have you seen the fabulous new Creature Comforts?? Phew, talk about gorgeous! Well done Ez!

Question: Good Business Books?

March 7, 2013 | Miscellaneous

Back when I answered this question on my favourite iPhone cases, I had another question from Chick Tyler, asking if I could recommend any good business books.

I only own two books so far about creative business, but just went hunting around the web and have found a whole bunch that sound really interesting!

There are some on turning your creative hobby into a business, one on blogging, one on graphic design (and pricing etc), and lastly – one that features Australian artists and creators. As an Aussie I was particularly excited to find this last one, because I find that a lot of other great creative business books (while still very helpful and inspiring) tend to feature a lot of information specifically aimed at an American market (such as taxes, laws, resources etc). So to find one that talks to Australian women totally made my day… and I’m off to download my copy of it now! :)

1. Creative Inc. by Joy Deangdeelert Cho and Meg Mateo Ilasco
2. Craft Inc. by Meg Mateo Ilasco
3. The Handmade Marketplace by Kari Chapin
4. Grow Your Handmade Business by Kari Chapin
5. Blog Inc. by Joy Deangdeelert Cho
6. Graphic Artist’s Guild Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines by Graphic Artist’s Guild
7. Conversations with Creative Women (available only as e-book download) by Tess McCabe

The two I own are Craft Inc. and The Handmade Marketplace, and I find both full of information, inspiration, and are very easy to read. Even though I don’t own any of the others (yet) and can’t say whether they’ll be suitable to all of you, I thought they were definitely worth a look if you’re interested.

If you have any other recommendations, I’d love to hear them! Thanks for the question Chick Tyler :)
