The Honeymoon Part 3

June 11, 2012 | Personal, Wedding

Phew, Monday again already! Did you all have a nice weekend? :)

I’ve got the last installment of the Honeymoon series today.. I hope you haven’t minded me sharing all these photos with you! It’s been really nice (and a little bit sad!) looking back through all our snaps again.. I’d love to go back!

So far you’ve seen the accommodation in Part 1, the island in Part 2, and today.. I’ll share a bit about what we did!

First up – snorkeling! I already admitted that I am a big chicken when it comes to snorkeling, but I’m afraid it doesn’t end there. I’m pretty much just scared of anything to do with the ocean. Lets just go ahead and say I’m an Oceanaphobe. Diving, snorkeling, swimming..  hmm.

Despite all that though, Dave managed to convince me that ‘seeing as we are in the Maldives, you really should just give it a go’. So we signed ourselves up for a snorkel trip out to one of the reefs with a group of other snorkel buddies. So now I can say I’ve snorkeled and survived! If I’m honest – It was pretty amazing.. the water was clear, the fish were bright.. and our guide-lady (bless her heart) didn’t mention the fact that I was being weird and sticking to her like glue.

Dave on the other hand was a fish in a previous life, I’m sure of it. After he’d experienced snorkeling, he decided to go diving and ended up getting his stage 1 certificate.

Meanwhile, I read a book in the hammok on the beach, sipping an iced coffee :)

We also took a private trip out to a litte sandbank in the middle of nowhere, which you might remember from this post. We had the island to ourselves with a picnic breakfast, drinks, chairs and an umbrella. It was pretty much the highlight of our trip :) It was all organised through the resort, so all we had to do was turn up. They had lots of fully-organised trips you could book, and if they were anything like our sand island getaway, they’d be brilliant!

And so marks the end of our honeymoon.. what an incredible trip. Sigh.

If you missed the first two posts I did on the Maldives, you can find Part 1 and Part 2 here.

The Honeymoon Part 2

June 4, 2012 | Personal, Wedding

Morning! I’m back again with Part 2 of our Honeymoon in the Maldives this morning. Part 1 was all about the accommodation we stayed in, so for Part 2 I’ve put together a collection of photos from around the Resort and the island it’s on.

The island that Meeru Island Resort is located on is only quite small, so we could walk around the whole thing quite easily. It’s also the only resort on that island so we didn’t have to worry that we were walking on a different resort’s beach or anything like that. There were several restaurant and bar options located around the island, so my next meal was never too far away (Thank God! I’m always hungry..), and we were lucky enough to have one of the best bars (in our opinion) just near our villa, with comfy lounges right on the beach :)

Idyllic or what?!

Next week will be Part 3 of the honeymoon photos – which will be the last :)

The Honeymoon Part 1

May 28, 2012 | Personal, Wedding

Who doesn’t love starting a new working week with photos from someone else’s magnificent honeymoon to an incredible island full of sun, sand, turquoise water, and nothing but relaxing??

Oh gosh golly.. I know I do!

Well, in this case I actually do because they’re photos from OUR honeymoon. It’s been a while since we spent our magical week in the Maldives, and I thought it was time to share it with you all! Terribly sorry to have to force these horrible photos on you!

To rub salt into the wound, I’m going to have to split the photos over 3 parts (the other two coming next monday and the monday after). I know, I’m so cruel! But, I will give you all the details on where we stayed so you can go and look into having your own holiday in the Maldives sometime :)

Part one: The accommodation.

The resort we stayed at was called Meeru Island Resort, and was about an hour speed-boat ride from the airport. We decided that the honeymoon was a good excuse to be a bit fancy, so booked ourselves into the Jacuzzi Water Villa which was one of the villas out over the water (with a jacuzzi!). It was gorgeous.

We had a private balcony out the back that had steps leading directly into the water where you could swim, snorkel, or just watch the marine life living swimming by. I favoured the latter due to some resident crabs that lived on our steps and I was terrified they were going to bite my feet if I went near them. Yes, I’m a big chicken. I’m also mildly terrified of snorkeling, just in case you were leaning towards thinking that I’m actually not a big chicken. I really really am.

Depending on the tide, the water around the villas varied from around mid-shin, to mid-thigh and was crystal clear. This made the walks from the villa to the beach and back again (we had a villa close to the far end, so it was about 200 m each way) really enjoyable because we could watch all the different kinds of fish, rays, and sharks swimming by. Every time we walked by there was something different to look at (like the ray above) and I was secretly happy to be walking above them, and not snokeling with them :)

Next week will be some photos from around the island.. think white sand beaches, romantic sunsets, and lots of palm trees. Try not to hate me too much right now ;)

Hello lovely friends! I’m baaaack.. and what an incredible month away I’ve had :)

I’ll go into more depth in another post (once the photos are back!), but in the mean time let me just say that the wedding went beautifully. For all the months that it took to plan, it went by in such a blur that I can’t believe it’s over! Even so, we’re going to have some of the most wonderful memories to look back on from our day.. everything was perfect!

In the weeks leading up to the day, we had the most horrific weather – rain, fog, wind, cold – and we were coming up with contingency plans left, right and centre.. only for us to wake up on the wedding day to find not a cloud in sight. Nothing but sunshine and warmth for the entire day. The photo above was a little sneak peek I was given from our fabulous photographer Bec.. more photos to come soon – I can’t wait!

And the honeymoon.. well.. you’ve seen the photo! It was all clear skies and turquoise water.. :) I’m glad we took lots of photos.. I might need to look back on them this week as I get over the post-honeymoon blues! Like this one.. this was my view this time last week:

Tough life, right? ;)

So while I adjust back into regular life, I’d also like to send out a huge thank you to Donaville and Aude for keeping the blog going while I was away. I’m sure you’d all agree that they did an amazing job!

Workspace Wednesday 32.

April 4, 2012 | Workspace Wednesday

Even though we’ve been away in the Maldives celebrating our Honeymoon, we also had the chance to celebrate Dave’s birthday a few days ago too! With the help of our hotel, I surprised him with a little half-day trip.. it involved taking a 15 minute boat trip, arriving at a little sandbank in the middle of the ocean. We were then dropped off (equipped with an umbrella, chairs, breakfast, and lots of cold drinks) and were left for about 3 hours to do as we pleased. It was a beautiful snorkel spot, so we spent our time swimming around, collecting shells, eating, sunning ourselves, and chasing the birds. Ah, bliss :)

It’s not really a ‘workspace’, but it’s as close as I’ve come to one this last week.. I hope you don’t mind!
