I’ve been reacquainting myself with watercolour this week.. trying out colours and arrangements for a very special wedding invitation :) I just love drawing florals!
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it here before, but my husband Dave collects old film cameras. He scouts them out at markets and online, brings them home, and is slowly working his way through, fixing and testing them.
Out of all the ones he’s collected over the years this little BOY one is my favourite. We’re not even sure if it works because we can’t find the right size film to go in it, but I thought he’d still make a cute watercolour.. :)
There are still things I wish I could fix about this drawing, but I’m trying hard not to dwell on it. He’s cute and that’s all that matters :)
I’m branching out. Brace yourselves. Now, instead of just illustrating words, I’m going to be trying my hand at objects. Here is my first attempt.. tadaa.. cup cake!
I drew it from a photo I found on the incredibly beautiful blog Call Me Cupcake. I had a bit of trouble getting the icing to look like it was meant to (with all those highlights and shadows and such) and just as I was finishing it off and outlining in black, my butter fingers dropped the black pen on the page, leaving a nice black streak up the bottom of the cup cake. A few choice words were said, let me tell you.
I tried desperately to make it disappear (and succeeded for the most part), but I think it’s fairly obvious I tried to fix it. Or at least, it is now that I’ve gone and told you about it! Just keeping it real over here.
Oh gosh.. I somehow just stumbled across PaperFashion and have spent the last hour going through the blog in complete awe. Katie Rodgers, the creator of PaperFashion, is an incredible watercolour artist and most of her blog and shop are made up of these gorgeous fashion illustrations…
Here are some of the prints you can buy in her shop.. aren’t they lovely?
How’s that for some gorgeous Friday eye-candy? Have a lovely weekend, friends!
