Thought I would try my hand at a very simplistic version of Batik the other day.. it basically involved drawing on my tea towel with hot wax, then dying it, and once it had dried, ironing it under paper towels to get the wax off (like this). Essentially you want the parts you drew on to stay white after dying it, so you can see what you drew.
Well, lets just say it didn’t work quite how I’d hoped. DIY fail. I guess my wax wasn’t hot enough because it didn’t soak in (just sat on top of the fabric) and consequently my patterns didn’t come out very clear. I also had a lot of trouble getting the wax off in the end :(
Oh well, was worth a shot! Maybe one day I’ll share the results.. maybe.

I was just in Malaysia and feel in love with Batik fabric. I bought several meters to craft with! Next time I’m there, I think it would be cool to take a course on Batik, I guess there are workshops in Cherating, but I’m sure they are all over. Do they have them in Singapore as well?
Hi Nellie! A course would be fun.. especially since my attempt didn’t really work :) I’m not sure about courses in Singapore, might be worth looking into!
